"The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost,
to reach out eagerly
and without fear for newer and richer experience."

I've been designing and curating events since 2005. I'm invested in event coordination because of the opportunities events offer for educating broad and diverse audiences and for building community. I've created a wide range of events: national conferences, all day seminars, monthly programs, fundraisers, workshops, and other special events.
In my own events work, I founded the Support Ella Baker Day initiative. Ella Baker Day began in Virginia in 2011 and is now celebrated in multiple states every April. I have been responsible for the entire event from the concept to marketing to budgets. I have designed the entire website, built out a communications strategy that has extended the celebration of Ella Baker Day into six states, and successfully recruited significant speakers every year. The success of Ella Baker Day has been formally recognized and supported by George Latimer of the Office of the Westchester County, NY, New York Congressman Adriano Espaillat, and NYC City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams.

Who is Ella Baker
&
What is Ella Baker Day?
Ella Baker was a Civil Rights Movement era activist who worked with notable organizations such as SNCC, NAACP, and SCLC. She believed the movement was an important force, not just for the freedom of black people, but for all people. Baker said “Even if segregation is gone, we will still need to be free; we will still have to see that everyone has a job. Even if we can all vote, but if people are still hungry, we will not be free…Singing alone is not enough; we need schools and learning…Remember, we are not fighting for the freedom of the Negro alone, but for the freedom of the human spirit, a larger freedom that encompasses all of mankind.”
A day in honor of Ella Baker would not only bring much needed attention to the contributions of women and women of color, but it would also recognize Baker as one of this nation's greatest activists who worked tirelessly to better the living conditions and opportunities for those less fortunate.
